Jane’s Story
Bowling is something that has been in my family for several generations and the person who got me into bowling was my mom, Jane Senaldi. The person that got my mom into bowling would be her mother and father. My mom has been bowling for years and still continues to do it for many reasons. The main reason is because that bowling is basically a form of math and she loves math. You have to align yourself in a way to hit a certain part of the bowling lane so that you hit the pins in a way that they all fall down.

My mother was a person that was always interesting in bowling because she spent many nights in a bowling alley while her parents bowled in the leagues. My mom and her two brothers ran around the bowling alley during that time and just learned to love the environment that bowling creates. Since my mom’s father got her into bowling, he is also the person that had the biggest influence on my mom’s bowling career. Bowling with him is one of her favorite memories because he was always so patient with her while helping her. One of my mom’s favorite leagues to bowl was an every other Sunday night league that she had the pleasure of bowling with her father. Another reason that hardened the concrete of why her dad is the biggest influence for her bowling career and just life in general.

My mom has a very distinct memory of her first bowling experience. When she was eight years old, her dad dropped her and her brothers off at St. Charles Lane on a Saturday morning. Where she bowled for the first time while also bowling her first league. At the bowling alley there were coaches there that were they were responsible for helping all the kids there get better that bowling. My mom started throwing a backup ball that was one of the slowest that the coaches have ever seen. A backup ball is generally when a bowler is generating hook from their hand in a direction opposite of what is considered “normal”. For right-handed players, this means their ball hooks to the right- for lefties, the ball hooks to the left.
Overall my mom is one of my biggest influences and the reason I started bowling. While there are some parents that force their kids into sports that they have no interest in doing, that was not the case for my mom and her kids. She always wanted them to try it but if they did not like it, she was not going to force them to keep doing it. I am so thankful that my mom introduced me to the sport of bowling because it has opened so many doors not just for me but also my mom. During her many years of bowling she has many good games and series, the highest being a 234 for high game and a 599 for a series (which is the total for a three-game set).
